Taking the First Steps

Hello blog world! It's so exciting to join you!

This blog is, I hope, a wonderful way to share thoughts, insights, and my experiences with those I love and am far away from and to learn from the world in general. The blogs I have been looking at lately have opened up wonderful viewpoints, not only through the bloggers writing, but through the comments of their followers. I'm hoping to have some of those moments through sharing part of my journey.

A little about myself to start off. I'm a child of God! That about sums me up :) I have had the wonderful blessing to find my faith these last couple of years and it has become the most beautiful and important part of my life. I'm a sophomore in college studying Religious Studies. Theology is definitely my passion, as is my music. I live to love in the most literal sense. I'm a little crazy and quirky, which you will probably see in my writing, but that is what makes me, well, me! St. Francis de Sales said, "Be who you are, and be that well." which is why I embrace all of my craziness. All of these things have become intertwined with my faith life...making it all the more interesting and personal.

Why is my blog called "My Walk to Emmaus?" Well, I love the story of the two men on the road to Emmaus. I would definitely say it is one of my favorite scripture passages. There is so much to the passage "They asked each other, 'Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us'" (Luke 24:32). First, it speaks of the passion that Jesus brings into our heart. Passion is one of the ways that I describe my personality ... my heart burns with fire for Him. The second part I love about this passage is the fact that the men didn't recognize Jesus until the broke bread with him. I have walked a long way on my journey and have not seen the presence of Jesus, and as I begin to find him it is usually through the intricacies and complexity of the Paschal mystery and the Eucharist. The third and definitely not final reason why I love the story of the walk to Emmaus is because Jesus opens the scripture to the men along the way. Jesus sharing scripture with the men shows His humanity. He read the scriptures, knew the scriptures, and prayed with the Word.

Anyway, I named it "My Walk To Emmaus" because this blog will chronicle my journey through discernment and my lovely college years. Hope you enjoy!!

Until the whole world hears,
Cassie

  2. I can hear your unique fun voice in your writing. Good luck on your journey. I have decided that faith is a journey, not a destination, and I believe it is a life long journey. I really like how you explained that passage. That's a cool way to think about it.
